Many jazz pianists, including Oscar Peterson, have identified Tatum as the greatest. Critic Scott Yanow wrote "Tatum's quick reflexes and boundless imagination kept his improvisations filled with fresh (and sometimes futuristic) ideas that put him way ahead of his contemporaries ...
